Bradbury Mountain State Park is a gem nestled in southern Maine, offering a perfect escape for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Located on Route 9, halfway between Portland and Lewiston-Auburn, this park spans 800 acres of lush, forested land. Whether you're looking to hike, camp, picnic, or simply enjoy the serene beauty of the outdoors, Bradbury Mountain has something for everyone.

One of the unique features of Bradbury Mountain State Park is its shared-use trails, making it the only state park in southern Maine where horseback riders, mountain bikers, and snowmobilers can all enjoy the trails together. The Northern Loop Trail is a favorite among visitors. This one-mile trail offers a wide, gradual ascent to the summit, providing a gentle climb that's perfect for riders of all levels. As you make your way up, you'll pass by a historic feldspar quarry, which was active in the 1920s and played a role in the local economy by supplying materials for plates and cups.

Further along the Northern Loop Trail, you'll encounter a fascinating piece of history: the "Cattle Pound." This almost intact structure dates back to the 1800s and was used by townspeople to corral stray farm animals that wandered onto neighboring properties. To retrieve their animals, owners had to pay a fee to the "poundkeeper," adding a touch of historical intrigue to your ride.

For those seeking a longer, more leisurely ride, the Tote Road Trail is an excellent choice. This one-mile loop takes you through the interior of the park, offering a wide and relatively flat path that's ideal for a relaxed journey. The park's extensive trail network ensures that there's always something new to explore, no matter the season.

Bradbury Mountain State Park is a year-round destination, welcoming visitors to enjoy its trails and natural beauty in every season. Whether you're riding horseback, biking, or simply hiking, you'll find that this park offers a diverse and enriching outdoor experience. So saddle up and explore the trails, take in the stunning views from the summit, and immerse yourself in the rich history and natural splendor of Bradbury Mountain.

Horse trailer parking is on the left after you go through the entrance booth. Lot is a large, paved loop with plenty of room for parking and navigating. Turns may be challenging for long rigs to navigate.
