Trail Rides Around Maine

Find a group that rides the way you do and join them. These groups host rides around the state, many of which are on land not open to public use. These are a great way to get to know others that share your horse passion.

Maine Trail Riding Groups

Ellis River Riders (ERR): The group hosts rides in the Andover area. Rides are 8-12 miles and are at your own pace on marked trails. Often 2-4 groups are formed based on pace so you have someone to ride with. Camping is available for members. Rides are $10. Negative Coggins and rabies vaccine required.

Horses Across Maine (HAM): The group hosts rides in the Oxford area. Rides leave as a group to get over a busy bridge, with the remainder of the ride in small groups on marked trails. Rides are usually 8-10 miles. Pace is set by each group, but expect to at least trot, if not canter along the trail. Rides are $10 (and benefit veterans). Lunch is generally available after for $10. Negative Coggins and rabies vaccine required.

Oak Hill Equestrians (OHE): The group hosts rides throughout central Maine with rides ranging from 6-12 miles through varied terrain. Unlike other groups listed here who generally host rides on weekends, you will find this group hosting any day of the week. They ride as a group, generally at a walk. No fees.

Southern Maine Association for Riding Trails (SMART): The group hosts rides throughout Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts which range from 15-20 miles on varied terrain. If you are not up for that long of ride, there is usually a shorter option in the 8-10 mile range. Ride and pace is on your own, but there are generally someone that will let you join their group. Trail is marked. Ride includes lunch after the ride. Ride and Meal is $25 for non-members, $30 for members. Rides are NEHTA affiliated.

Trail Riders of Today (TROT): The group hosts rides in the Bangor to Ellsworth area. Ride is on your own with critical intersections marked and usually a map available at the start. Rides are usually 6-12 miles. Pace is any you desire. If you do not want to ride alone it is generally easy to find some others to group up with. Rides are $5 for non-members and $1 for members.
