MAINE TRAIL
Jugtown Forest is a 5,000 acre privately owned working forest encompassing parts of Casco, Naples and Otisfield, and is open for recreation and nature exploration. Trails are multi-use and shared by snowmobiles, ATVs, dirt bikes, horses and hikers.
In 1848, Hancock Land Company began their legacy by purchasing a 400 acre timber stand in Casco, part of what is today known as Jugtown Forest. Hancock Lumber continues to responsibly manage their forests. The forest contains a myriad of tree species, the primary focus remains on harvesting and manufacturing Eastern White Pine.
There are several places that you can enter the forest on horseback, but one of the easiest to access is to contact Carousel Horse Farm and request permission to park in their field. For a small fee, you will have access to easy in/out parking, water for your horse, and a porta potty for you. Trails start directly off their parking area. If you are coming from a distance, you may also be able to arrange camping at the farm.
There are literally miles of trails available to ride making as short, or long, a loop as you would like. Footing is rocky in some areas (especially the access trail from Carousel), but once you get into the forest there are miles of soft sandy trails to move out on.
Carousel Horse Farm has easily accessible parking for a small fee--contact them by email for more information. Alternatively, there is parking at the Ellen drive trailhead, but there is limited space for horse trailers and may be quickly used by ATV trailers.

Notes:
When riding to Nun's Loop, where the pipeline and Edes Falls Rd intersect, the trail will proceed down into a stream. Do not cross the stream here, walk east up the stream for about 100' and exit on the opposite bank near a piece of red flagging tape. Follow the tape markings to continue on the trail. Do NOT try to navigate the mud on the opposite bank before the tape.
