Plan your ride

Discover the beauty of Camden Hill State Park by exploring the Multi-use Trail, a delightful 5-mile out-and-back adventure perfect for horse trail riding. This well-maintained double track trail features solid fine gravel footing, making it an excellent choice for spring rides when other trails might be muddy.

As you embark on this pleasant forested route, you'll traverse the lower slopes of the mountains, experiencing a series of gentle ups and downs. The first mile offers stunning views of Penobscot Bay through the trees, providing a picturesque backdrop for your ride.

Approximately two miles into the trail, you'll find a convenient stopping spot at a ski hut, complete with a pit toilet and a hitching post for your horse. This makes for a perfect rest break before continuing your journey.

The Multi-use Trail is shared with bikers, joggers, and hikers, so be prepared for a diverse mix of trail users. Despite the shared use, the trail's wide double track ensures ample space for everyone to enjoy.

For those looking for an alternative route, the Cameron Mountain Trail offers a fantastic 2.5-mile side trail option. This trail can be ridden as an alternative to a section of the Multi-use Trail or to create a lollipop route. The Cameron Mountain Trail gradually rises through old farmland and blueberry barrens, featuring a mile of single track dirt trail. This scenic detour adds variety and a touch of adventure to your ride.

Parking is available along Route 1 at the park entrance in Camden. The lot is spacious but tends to fill up quickly, especially during peak times, so it's wise to arrive early. There is one space marked for a horse trailer in the center row on the end. If this is full, talk to the ranger, they may have other spaces where you can park.
